Phoenix
Within the PNC System is a product known as Phoenix which holds particular information on offenders within its database,

Phoenix is referred to by Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Constabulary as:
"The Police Service has developed a sophisticated national intelligence system within PNC called Phoenix. This powerful investigative tool which has the potential to greatly enhance the Service's ability to detect and reduce crime. Its strength lies in the fact it is a National intelligence facility available to all forces."

The type of information included within the Phoenix database includes for example,

  • Marks, scars and tattoo's all useful in identification of offenders.
  • Modus Operandi,
  • Personal Habits,
  • Associates,
  • Address,
  • Sex,
  • Intelligence Information on the subject,

Also within Phoenix is a search tool called QUEST Query using extended search technique.

The role which Phoenix is best described as a national intelligence database of offenders and history / intelligence.

The PNC provides the British police service and its users with one of the worlds most powerful police computer systems available to all UK police forces, PNC is also available to certain Government Departments and the prison service.
