Dear Parents

The new academic year is under way and we welcome everybody back to AGS after a rather inclement summer and in continuing soggy conditions. A warm greeting to students and parents who are joining us for the first time in Years 7 and 12 whom we hope will all enjoy a happy and successful association with the school. Having bid farewell to a number of departing staff it is my pleasure to introduce several new faces to the teaching team:

Newsletter July 2008

The longest day came and went; it’s Wimbledon week, Sports Day, Block Week and it will be Christmas again before we know it! Another academic year draws to a close and in a blink we are all a little older and wiser. Congratulations to Year 7 especially on completing their first year with us. I was remarking to the parents at the Year 12 Induction Evening how quickly their sons and daughters had progressed to Key stage 5. Although this year has come with challenges for many, I certainly believe there have been many high points and successes which I hope will be consolidated by excellent exam results in August for all those older students whose summer has been punctuated by GCSEs and A Levels.

The sun is shining, the weather is mild and spring is officially here. As we look forward to the benefits of what will hopefully be seasonable weather during the coming months for many of our students this of course, means the onset of the formal examination season. Our Year 11, 12 and 13 students have managed to meet the rigours of coursework deadlines and are now busy attending revision classes or actually sitting A Level and GCSE examinations. Of course, Year 9 students have already worked hard for their KS3 tests in May. On behalf of the staff and governors, I would like to wish all of our students who will be revising and preparing during the Whitsun holiday and beyond, all the very best for their forthcoming examinations and tests. Internal exams will also be available soon for everybody else to ensure that nobody misses out on the fun. It is essential for all students to take this period seriously and to get plenty of sleep, fresh air and support where appropriate.

March Newsletter
Apr 16, 2008 - 4:46:06 PM

Last Friday’s assembly for the whole school was packed with rich and varied presentations by students and staff celebrating all kinds of achievements including County and Midlands accolades in sports, mock trials, Science and Maths competitions as well as adverts for yet more opportunities to take part in performances in Spain and the exchange visit to China. The audience was treated to a film show documenting Mr Anderson’s Hong Kong musical ventures, there was a superb performance by the unaccompanied jazz choir and the Rag Committee enlisted participants for their Impersonate a Pop Star show which, with much hilarity and skilled entertainment, finished off a week’s charity events raising several thousand pounds for good causes. Witnessing all this talent and hearing about the success and enjoyment of so many skilled and able students was both a delight and a privilege. You can read more evidence in the pages which follow.

This year we seem to have a particularly short Spring Term and we are no sooner settling into the rhythm of 2007 (Happy New Year!) than another half term break beckons. Many students have endured a spell of examinations, having revised during the Christmas holiday, and they will deserve a well earned rest when February 9th arrives
